He is also said to have started the field of Greek astronomy Thales believed that all things come from water. He thought that the whole world started from water. Another theory of his reguarding water was that the world is a flat disk that floats on an endless expanse of water.
Thales was also excellent using his knowledge of the world at predicting future events. He sucessfully predicted an eclipse that took 585 B.C.E. Aristotle told a story about Thales predicting that the olive crop would be bountiful in the next season so he purchased every olive press. Then, when his prediction came true, Thales made a fortune.
